message from the executive director

December’s Performance Manufacturing Index (PMI) showed that manufacturing ended the year in decent expansion territory, and new orders were strong, which bodes well for the start of 2019.

In this edition, we highlight a lot of good conferences coming up and there should be something for everyone, depending on your business.  If we want ‘talent led’ innovation we need to keep abreast of the latest knowledge. Also, it would be great to see all the women in manufacturing congregating at the leadership summit

Have you got your New Zealand Business Number Yet?

Neville Johnson, Director Enabling Services at New Zealand Government Procurement and Property (NZGPP) says the NZBN is the first major step in the digitisation journey for New Zealand. “There’s this key opportunity that presents itself to us and that’s around more efficient international trade. And it provides an opportunity to have that much more effective, simple, easy trade with different nations - both our major trading partners and those nations that we want to increase our level of trade with.

Your NZBN is a globally recognised number, (it’s called a Global Location Number - GLN) so when you use it, any business across the world can recognise you, and use your core business information when they’re interacting with you.

New 10th Edition of WES Book

Please note that WorkSafe New Zealand’s 10th Edition of the Workplace Exposure Standards and Biological Exposure Indices Special Guide was published in November 2018, and has been available online since that time.

Changes to Exposure Standards
The majority of the recommended values that were proposed in the individual proposal documents were adopted, however, some values do differ from those recommended in the proposal documents that were made available online to stakeholders during the consultation phase.

(Three substances that were under review in 2018 remain under review - these are nitrogen dioxide (NO2), hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and synthetic mineral fibre (SMF).)

The main changes in the 10th Edition are signalled in the Preface and can be found here
